Jordan Armstrong

Jordan Armstrong instructs scent work classes at K9 Country Club. Jordan is an active-duty officer in the United States Air Force, serving as an Operations Analysis Officer currently focusing upon promotions data analysis at the Air Force Personnel Center. He has his bachelor’s degrees in applied math and physics, as well as a master’s degree in industrial engineering, and he is happy to geek out in the nerdy details of various sport for those who are interested. He started dog sports a few short years ago with his German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) Nitro, and they are already well experienced as Nitro has earned over 110 titles competing in 9 different venues while also already competing in multiple invitational and national level events together. Jordan just started training his newest GSP named Electra.

While Jordan competes in a large variety of dog sports with his GSPs, scent work is his true passion. He has competed in American Kennel Club (AKC), National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW), United Kennel Club (UKC), Canine Work and Games (C-WAGs), and Performance Scent Dogs (PSD) trials, where Nitro has earned numerous high-in-trials (HITs). A good example being Nitro taking 3rd place overall and 1st place overall while earning his 1st and 2nd NW3 titles in NACSW in his first two attempts at that level.

Jordan’s goals in training are tailoring the lessons to the individual dog and handler team. The intent of various sessions should always be to improve the skills of the dog and/or handler, while ensuring the team has fun together while doing so. He loves the ranges of benefits of dogs in nosework, from using it as confidence building for fearful dogs or dogs who need more socialization, or it being fine-tuning skills for teams competing for placements and high-in-trials, and every team in between. He also believes in building the relationship and skills of the team as a whole, instead of focusing upon the individual requirements of a specific trial organization. At the end of the day, the focus is all about enjoying the time together with your canine companion(s).

Jordan is also working on his requirements to become an AKC Scent Work judge and hopes to complete the requirements to become a provisional judge soon.
